The Boom Festival 2022 has come and gone, but the memories and experiences that were captured on film will last a lifetime.
As an analogue photography enthusiast, I couldn’t resist bringing my trusty Pentax P30 along to document the festival-goers and their colourful outfits.
For those who may not know, the Boom Festival is a biennial event that takes place in Portugal. It’s a celebration of art, music, and culture, with a focus on sustainability and consciousness. The festival attracts people from all over the world, who come together to dance, connect, and share their unique experiences.
As I wandered through the festival grounds, I was struck by the vibrant energy and diversity of the people around me. From young children to elderly hippies, everyone seemed to be enjoying themselves and fully immersed in the festival’s atmosphere. The outfits were a highlight for me, with many festival-goers sporting intricate designs, bold colours, and creative accessories. It was like a living, breathing art exhibit.
As a photographer, my goal was to capture these moments and preserve them in a way that would do them justice. I chose to shoot on analogue film because I love the warmth and texture that it adds to photos, and the fact that you have to wait to see the final result – so you end up giving more thought to the scene, than you’d do using a digital camera.
